After trying to restore the bumper using plastic dye, back to black, boot polish and even a heat gun, I can only say the results were disappointing and did not last very long. I even tried the peanut butter method.
The heat gun method may work on bumpers that are only a few years old, but on a van that is almost twenty years old it does not work very well at all, I think it has actually made it worse.
