SOLD – The Volkswagen Type 2 ‘Splitty’ has long since acquired cult status courtesy of celebrity owners, type cast surfer dudes, hippies and ‘normal’ people who want to re live their youth.

Originally available in Van, Bus, Pick-up and Camper guises, the original Splitscreen T1 version was launched in 1950 and produced in Germany until 1967 and Brazil until 1975. It was initially powered by a rear-mounted 1100cc flat-four engine producing 24bhp, but later versions like the car offered had a more potent 1600cc

This 1967 left hand drive Splitscreen camper was supplied new to the USA and is understood to have been converted in period by EZ Camper Inc. of Littlerock California. Having spent the best part of forty years in the USA it was then imported to the UK in May 2004 when it was added to a collection of a large motor dealer but has been used sparingly.

Viewing of this vehicle is a must it’s hard to believe it’s 50 years old!

Finished in arguably the most striking combination of Black over Cream, the sparkling interior features white leather upholstery, veneered fittings and Black and White cheque flooring.

Boasting numerous upgrades that include lowered and uprated suspension with front disc brakes, twin carburettors, Beetle 1303 four speed gearbox and factory ‘gas burner’ alloy wheels. The comprehensive internal specification includes a matching white leather trimmed lounge area to the rear with an additional ‘dickie’ seat, a cooker, fridge, ample storage and comes complete with gas bottles and mains hook up cables.

On the road this great vehicle does not disappoint, the engine pulls strongly through the all synchromesh gearbox and the upgraded suspension and brakes keep you firmly planted to the tarmac, all in all, what’s not to like? MOT’d and ready to enjoy for the summer and remember, the road tax is free too. Overseas enquiries welcome.
