Our 70th birthday lookback at the #VWtransporter continues with the #VWT2 and #VWT3 – two iconic Volkswagens which brought vw campers to a whole new generation of campervan fans in the 1970s and 1980s. The Volkswagen T1, affectionately known as the bay window VW, soon became a popular vehicle with campervan converters including Westfalia in Germany and Danbury and Devon in the UK. The Volkswagen T2 went through host of improvements during its lifetime and our video helps identify late bay windows from early bay windows. Not always easy when there’s a VW Crossover period! Oh and thanks to VW Commercial vehicles for the great archive videos and photos featured in this film. Our celebration continues with the VW T3 – or the VW Vanagon as it was known in the US – or the VW T25 in the Uk. This angular, box-shaped Transporter for the 80s upset the purists, but soon found a loyal fanbase. The VW T3 camper became a huge hit – with the VW Vanagon Westfalia developing a cult following in the USA. The T3 Syncro became the first four-wheel-drive Transporter and the model finally offered water-cooled engines replacing air-cooled engines which had been a staple of the Transporter for more than thirty years.
